ALMANAC-8 soccer poll

Saturday October 1, 2011

The Almanac-8 ranks the top eight teams in the Southwestern Indiana area. The poll is released twice a month during the soccer season.

Rank Team Record Comment
1 #3AA Memorial 12-1-1 The best team in town wins SIAC and city titles once again, but Carmel showed the Tigers who's boss and took their #1 ranking
2 #11AA Washington 13-3-1 The Hatchets already had the Big 8 title in hand but slipped up at Jasper. With Castle and North in their bracket, all focus now shifts to sectional play.
3 #2A Mater Dei 10-3-1 The Wildcats have proven they can compete with any AA team. With the Gateway Classic this weekend, one last fine tuning should help them to go far in the Class A bracket.
4 #9AA Castle 8-3-3 A loss to Mater Dei cost the Knights a share of the SIAC title. Castle can't dwell on it for long though, with a tough sectional approaching fast.
5 #5A Gibson Southern 14-0-3 The Titans are still undefeated after securing the PAC title. Look for Gibson Southern to make a serious run beyond sectionals.
6 #14A Washington Catholic 14-0-1 A tie with Day puts the first blemish on the Cardinals record. Still, their unbeaten record proves that the city of Washington is no "one horse town".
7 Vincennes Lincoln 14-1-1 After winning out in conference play, the Alices get to share in the Big 8 spoils making their lone loss to Washington seem like ages ago.
8 Jasper 9-4-2 The Wildcats rebounded from the Lincoln game to beat Mater Dei and Big 8 rivals Washington. Two wins in their Big 8 double header Saturday would mean a three way tie for the conference title.

Also worth noting: North, Boonville, Day School, South Spencer
