Local girls fail to qualify

Thursday October 27, 2011

Last weekend was not kind to area girls teams though Memorial and Mater Dei bouth showed they could compete with the state's elite.

#3AA Memorial lost to #1AA and undefeated Carmel. The Greyhounds went on to defeat #9AA Columbus North (last year's runner up) in PKs and now faces #2AA Hamilton Southeastern. The Royals defeated last year's state champs SB St. Joe to set up a #1-#2 showdown between the two northern Indy suburb rivals. Carmel is going for its 14th state title while Hamilton Southeastern is playing for its first.

#6A Mater Dei fell one game short of their first state final. The Wildcats defeated #3A Lawrenceburg 2-1 in the morning match, but lost 0-1 to #1A Providence in the semi-state final on a late goal. The Pioneers move on to face Mishawaka Marian in Saturday's Class A championship, both teams playing in their first final.
