Boys near mid-season

Friday September 13, 2013

Believe it or not, we are approaching the midway point for the 2013 soccer season. AlmanacSports takes a quick look at how the teams are doing.

SIAC

Memorial is 5-0-3 after crushing North and any chances of a team challenging for City. Now Castle is the only legitimate obstacle for Tigers repeating SIAC.

Castle may not be content with a 4-3 record, but these Knights are a stong group. With North and Memorial still on the schedule the Knights could find a way to upset the SIAC.

Mater Dei can explain away its record too (losses to Memorial and 3 strong Kentucky teams). The Wildcats will be well-prepared when they enter Class A postseason.

After a hot start, North is licking its paws after going 0-2-1.

Central boasts a strong record, but the Bears' resume is at times lacking.

Big 8

After starting 0-1-1, Jasper has posted 8 wins in a row (and only 1 goal allowed).

Washington stands at 9-1-1 after an impressive shutout over castle. A 9/26 showdown with Jasper will likely determine the Big 8

Vincennes Lincoln is struggling after losing so many quality players and their coach from last year's undefeated team. The Alices are still looking for their first win but the softer part of their schedule is coming up.

PAC

The Pocket Athletic Conference is now a two horse race between last year's co-champs Gibson Southern and Forest Park. Gibson Southern is undefeated at 8-0-2 and is the favorite. Forest Park, however, is also undefeated in conference and despite missing much of their results, the 10/3 Titans-Rangers showdown will probably make or break their season.

North Posey, whose two "expected" losses were very close, sits at 7-2 but are virtually out of the conference race.

Blue Chip

Undefeated North Knox--yes undefeated!--have bettered their win total from the previous three years. The Warriors are a legitimate contender for the conference title.

Vincennes Rivet may not impress with their overall record of 2-4-1, but their tie with North Knox, puts them in position for Blue Chip title.

Washington Catholic has a mediocre record by their standards, but playing tough competition at the Hoosier Cup will pay off. With conference leaders still on the schedule, the Cardinals can still claim the Blue Chip.

Another team playing well is South Knox, bolstered by the shock win over Washington Catholic.
