Cory Brunson hired as Mount Vernon's new football coach

Friday February 24, 2017

The news of Mount Vernon's new head football coach has generated a lot of talk in Southwestern Indiana among high school football fans.

The Posey County school announced yesterday that Cory Brunson has accepted the head coaching job for the Wildcats.

"I’m looking forward to another opportunity," said Brunson, who had been the head coach at Harrison, in a 44News interview.

Brunson had a 21-23 record with the Warriors in the past four years and was the 2015 Courier & Press All-Metro Coach of the Year. He had previously been an assistant under former coach Paul Maier, who resigned in January. Maier had been with Mount Vernon since 1998 and had an 88-115 record.
